But on a positive note it wasn't windy! We left Nelson just before 9.00am and were in Motueka about 40 mins later. We were able to leave the car at tonight's accommodation while we went cycling and at this point is was still dry, but grey. There was a heavy shower just after we had unloaded the bikes and got the wheels on, but it soon stopped and we decided to head off on another section of 'The Taste Trail' initially to Kaiteriteri. By the time we had got there it was raining heavily, which was a shame as there was a beautiful bay and lots going on (or there would have been on a better day). We sheltered for a bit, thinking that the rain would pass, but as if to prove that NZ weather forecasts are every bit as bad as those in the UK it continued to rain until about 8.00pm this evening. It got progressively heavier as we sheltered and we got progressively colder, so in the end we just got on the bikes and blasted back to Motueka as fast as our legs would take us, feeling a bit annoyed that we hadn't worn our waterproof socks!
The owner saw us coming in to the motel and opened up his garage so the bikes could dry off overnight. It was then straight into hot showers, cup of tea and all the clothes we had been wearing into the tumble drier. The rest of the day has been spent reading and getting wet when we ventured out to get supplies for dinner. The forecast is for 3 dry and reasonably sunny days before the next system crosses the country, but I'll believe that if and when it happens.
Just a few pictures from previous days - didn't get the camera out today!
